Privacy Policy
Pet Gatekeeper ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that helps you take breaks from selected websites by overlaying a short video when your usage limit is reached. This policy explains what data the Extension handles and how.
- The Extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information.
- All data stays on your device, inside your browser's local storage.
- There are no analytics, no tracking, no remote servers, and no third-party services.
What the Extension Stores Locally
The Extension stores the following data using Chrome's built-in storage.local and IndexedDB APIs. This data never leaves your device.
- Whether the Extension is enabled
- Your configured usage limit and break duration
- The list of domains you have chosen to track
- The name you have given your pet
- The number of seconds you have spent on each tracked domain in the current session
- A timestamp of when usage was last saved (used to discard entries older than 30 minutes)
- If you upload your own break video on the Options page, the video file is stored locally in your browser's IndexedDB. It is never uploaded anywhere.
What the Extension Does NOT Collect
- No browsing history
- No page contents
- No keystrokes, form inputs, or clicks
- No account information, email, or identifiers
- No IP address, device fingerprint, or location data
- No data is sent to the developer or any third party
Permissions and Why They Are Needed
storage— to save your settings, usage counters, and video locally.activeTab/ host access to all URLs — so the Extension can run its usage timer and display the break overlay on the sites you choose to track. The content script only reads the current page's URL hostname to decide whether tracking applies; it does not read page content.
Data Sharing
None. The Extension has no backend and does not communicate with any external server. No data is shared with the developer or any third party.
Data Retention and Deletion
- Per-domain usage counters older than 30 minutes are automatically discarded.
- You can clear all Extension data at any time by removing the Extension from Chrome, or via
chrome://extensions→ Pet Gatekeeper → "Site access" / "Remove". - Uninstalling the Extension deletes all of its locally stored data, including any custom video.
Children's Privacy
The Extension does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13.
